binary workshops

Ernesto Estrella / Mario Asef

The Binary Workshops are a set of collective research practices for investigating acoustic phenomena. As the name suggests, our Binary Workshops begin by separating participants into two groups. Each workshop leader chooses the specific topic for the session, outlining relevant goals and practices. During this theoretical stage, both groups will work separately. This is followed by the creative stage, in which the groups come together to jointly develop a concrete work or action. Here, both groups will confront the situation of working collectively by applying the various premises and ideas developed during the theoretical sessions. The Binary Workshops are thus designed to sharpen the educational and creative process of the participants. The passive learning role is abandoned in lieu of a self-directed approach. Through a simple change in roles participants become teachers themselves by having to share and communicate the skills and ideas they have recently acquired.
